Making Paper Bag Puppets with Wiggly Eyes!
Remember those awesome paper bag puppets from when you were a kid? They're super fun to make, and even better – we're adding wiggly eyes this time! It's a perfect rainy-day activity or a cool school project. Let's get crafting!
What You'll Need:
- A paper bag: A lunch bag works great! Any color is fine.
- Markers or crayons: Get colorful!
- Scissors: For snipping and shaping.
- Glue: A glue stick is easiest.
- Construction paper: For clothes and hair. Think bright colors!
- Googly eyes: These are awesome! But you can draw eyes too.
- Craft sticks (optional): To make your puppet easier to hold.
- Yarn or string (optional): For hair or other details.
- Fun stuff (optional): Buttons, glitter…go wild!
Let's Make a Puppet!
1. Sketch Your Puppet First:
Before you start cutting, draw your puppet on paper. This helps you plan everything out. Is it a friendly dog? A scary monster? That helps decide what it looks like.
2. Draw the Face:
Now, draw the face on the paper bag. Use your markers or crayons. Don't forget eyebrows, a nose, and a mouth! Just leave some space for those amazing eyes.
3. The Moving Eyes – Three Ways!
Here's how to make those eyes wiggle:
- Googly Eyes: Super easy! Glue them onto small circles of construction paper. Glue the circles to the bag, leaving a tiny space between them. Voilà! Wiggly eyes!
- Draw and Cut: Draw eyes on construction paper, cut them out, and cut a smaller circle inside each eye (the pupil). Glue them on, leaving a small gap.
- Brads (for pros): Punch holes, and use brads to attach the eyes. They’ll spin! (This is a little trickier.)
4. Hair and Other Fun Stuff:
Time for hair! Use construction paper, yarn – anything goes! Add ears, hats…get creative!
5. Make Some Clothes:
Cut out clothes from construction paper. Simple rectangles for shirts are fine, or make fancy dresses!
6. Add a Handle (Optional):
Glue or staple a craft stick to the back. This makes it much easier to use your puppet.
7. Finishing Touches:
Add buttons, glitter…whatever you like! Let the glue dry before playing.
Tips & Tricks!
- Different bag sizes: Big bags for big puppets, small bags for tiny ones!
- Fancy paper: Use patterned paper or even wallpaper scraps!
- Puppet show time!: Put on a show for your friends and family!
- Recycle! Use egg cartons or bottle caps for extra details.
- More puppets!: Make a whole bunch!
- Eye-deas!: Use different colored googly eyes, or make your own from felt or buttons.
Becoming a Puppet Pro!
Once you’re good at the basics…
- Movable arms and legs: Add slits and use brads to make them move.
- Fancy costumes: Use fabric and other materials for awesome clothes.
- Build a stage!: Create a background for your puppet show.
- Give them personalities!: Make up stories about your puppets!
If Something Goes Wrong:
If the glue isn't working, make sure everything is clean and dry. You might need stronger glue. If the eyes don’t move well, check the gap – it needs to be just right!
