- Bandages: Get lots of sizes for little cuts.
- Gauze: For cleaning and covering bigger scrapes.
- Tape: To hold the gauze in place.
- Antiseptic wipes: To clean wounds and stop germs.
- Pain pills: Like ibuprofen or acetaminophen. Ask a grown up for help!
- Antihistamine: For allergies.
- Scissors: To cut bandages.
- Tweezers: To pull out splinters. Ouch!
- Gloves: To keep germs away from you.
- CPR Mask: If you know CPR, this helps protect you when giving breaths.
- Emergency Blanket: To keep someone warm if they're cold or in shock.
- First Aid Manual: A book that tells you what to do in different situations.
What to Do in an Emergency: The Quick Steps
Okay, so something's happened. Here's what to do, fast:
- Look around first. Is it safe? Are there fires or other dangers? Make sure you're not going to get hurt.
- Get help! Call 911 (or your local emergency number). Tell them where you are, what happened, and how many people are hurt.
- Help the person. Start with the most important things, like breathing or bleeding.
- Stay calm! It's okay to be scared, but try to stay calm. It will help the person who's hurt. Tell them help is coming.
- Keep watching them. Make sure they're still breathing and check if anything changes.
CPR: How to Help Someone Who Isn't Breathing
CPR is super important. It helps someone when they stop breathing. Here’s how to do it on an adult:
- Check if they're awake. Shake their shoulder and ask loudly, "Are you okay?" If they don't answer, get help.
- Call 911. Put your phone on speaker so you can talk to them and still use your hands. Or, tell someone else to call.
- Check for breathing. Look at their chest. Is it moving? If not, start CPR.
- Push on their chest. Put the heel of one hand in the middle of their chest, between their nipples. Put your other hand on top. Push hard and fast – about 2 inches deep. Do it about 100-120 times each minute.
- Give breaths. After 30 chest pushes, give two breaths. Tilt their head back and pinch their nose. Cover their mouth with yours and blow until you see their chest rise.
- Keep going! Keep doing chest pushes and breaths until help arrives or they start breathing again.
Important: If you haven't taken a CPR class, just do the chest pushes. It’s better than nothing!
How to Clean a Wound
Someone got a scrape? Here's what to do.
Little Cuts

- Change it daily. Or if it gets dirty.
Big Cuts
- Stop the bleeding. Press on the cut with a clean cloth.

- Clean it. Gently wash with soap and water.
- Get a doctor! Big cuts might need stitches.

Big Burns
These are very serious. The skin might look white or black.
- Call 911 right away!

Someone Is Choking!
If someone is choking, they can't breathe.
- Ask if they're okay. If they can cough, tell them to keep coughing.
- Do the Heimlich. Stand behind them and wrap your arms around their waist. Make a fist and put it just above their belly button. Grab your fist with your other hand and pull in and up hard.
- Keep going. Do this until the object pops out or they pass out.
- If they pass out, lay them on the ground and start CPR.
Allergic Reactions
Someone having an allergic reaction?
- Mild reactions: Like hives or itching? Give them an antihistamine.
- Bad reactions: Trouble breathing? Face swelling? Use an EpiPen if you have one and call 911 immediately!
