Making a Paper Fortune Teller: It's Easier Than You Think!
Remember those cool paper fortune tellers from your childhood? They're super fun to make, and even better to play with! This guide shows you how to make your own. It's perfect for a rainy afternoon, a party, or just because.
What You'll Need:
- A square piece of paper (you can easily make one from a regular piece of paper – I'll show you how!).
- Colored pencils, markers, or crayons (optional, for decorating). Get creative!
- Scissors (optional, for trimming).
- A pen or pencil (for writing fortunes).
Let's Make a Fortune Teller!
- Making a Square: If you have a regular piece of paper, fold a corner to meet the opposite corner. Trim off the extra bit. Unfold – voilà – a perfect square!
- First Fold: Fold it in half diagonally. Make a nice sharp crease, then unfold.
- Second Fold: Now fold it in half the other way diagonally. Crease it well and unfold again. You’ll see an "X" now.
- Third & Fourth Folds: Fold it in half vertically (top to bottom), crease, and unfold. Then, fold it in half horizontally (left to right), crease, and unfold. You'll have a plus sign (+) on top of your "X".
- Forming the Base: Bring all four corners to the center where all the lines meet. Pinch them together to hold them.
- Folding the Flaps: Fold each of the four little triangles down towards the center, tucking them under. You'll have a smaller square now.
- Decorating Time!: This is the best part! Decorate the outside however you like. The brighter, the better! I once made one with sparkly stickers – it was awesome.
- Writing the Fortunes: Open it up. You'll see eight triangles. Write a number on each small inner triangle. Then, on the bigger triangles, write your fortunes.
- Let's Play!: Someone picks a color on the outside. Open and close it according to their choice until a number shows up. That number reveals their fortune!
Tips & Tricks:
- Different Paper: Try construction paper – it's thicker and looks great! Origami paper is also fun.
- Themed Fortune Tellers: Make a Halloween one with spooky stuff! Or a birthday one with fun party designs.
- Personalized Fortunes: Make it extra special by writing fortunes just for the person playing.
- Add Pictures!: Little drawings make it even cooler. Especially with themed ones.
- Get Creative!: Try layering different colors and patterns for a super cool look.
- Make it a Group Project!: Get friends or family to help decorate. It’s a great party activity!
