Making Paper Plate Hair Clips: Fun & Easy!
Looking for a fun craft for kids? These paper plate hair clips are super easy to make! My kids love them. We made a bunch for their friends' birthdays.
What You'll Need:
- Paper plates: Any color works! We even used leftover party plates.
- Scissors: Kid-safe scissors are best. Adult supervision is a must!
- Glue: Craft glue or a hot glue gun (adults only!).
- Hair clips: Alligator clips are great – you can find them at any craft store.
- Decorations: Markers, glitter, stickers – get creative!
- Optional extras: Hole punch, glitter glue, etc.
Let's Make Some Clips!
1. Prep the Plate:
Pick a paper plate. If it's plain, color it first! Flowers? Animals? Go wild!
2. Cut it Out:
Cut the plate into a shape. A half-circle is easy. Or, try butterflies, flowers… anything!
Shape Ideas:
- Flowers: Cut petals and layer them for a 3D look.
- Butterflies: Cut wings and a body. Add antennae with pipe cleaners!
- Animals: Draw the animal first, then cut it out.
3. Attach the Clip:
Glue your shape to the hair clip. A little glue goes a long way. Make sure it's centered! Hot glue? Adults only, please.
Tip: Test the placement before gluing.
4. Decorate!
This is the best part! Glitter? Stickers? Ribbons? Go crazy!
Decoration Ideas:
- Glitter glue is awesome.
- Ribbons add a fancy touch.
- Beads add texture.
- Sequins make it sparkle.
- Fabric scraps add a unique look.
5. Let it Dry:
Let it dry completely. This prevents everything from falling off.
More Fun Ideas:
- Themed clips: Match the clips to outfits or holidays.
- Layered designs: Use multiple plates for a 3D effect.
- Mix it up: Use felt, foam, or fabric with the plates.
- Add 3D stuff: Pom-poms, googly eyes… anything fun!
- Personalized clips: Add names or initials!
Important Safety Note:
Always supervise kids with scissors and glue. Hot glue is for adults only! Be mindful of allergies and make sure the room is well-ventilated when using paint or strong-smelling glue.
