Looking for a fun and easy craft project for kids? You've come to the right place! This paper plate bird is perfect for preschoolers and elementary school kids. It's a great way to help them get creative and build those important fine motor skills. And the best part? You can make a whole flock of colorful birds with just a few simple supplies.
What You'll Need
- Paper plates
- Scissors
- Markers or crayons
- Googly eyes
- Glue
- Optional: Feathers, pipe cleaners, pom-poms, sequins, or anything else you think looks fun!
Let's Make Some Birds!
Step 1: Folding the Paper Plate
- Take your paper plate and fold it in half. Make sure the flat side is on the outside.
- Fold it in half again. This time, the folded edge should be on the outside.
- Unfold it so it's only folded in half once. Now you should have a half-circle shape.
Step 2: Cutting Out the Wings
- Cut two small curved shapes on the folded edge of the plate. These will be the bird's wings. Make sure you leave enough space at the top for the head and beak.
- Unfold the plate. Ta-da! You now have a bird shape with wings on one side.
Step 3: Decorating Your Bird
- Use markers or crayons to color the bird's body, wings, and tail. Get creative and have fun with it!
- Add googly eyes to the front of the bird, just above the folded edge. If you don't have googly eyes, you can draw them in.
- Add a small triangle to the folded edge for the beak. Or, you can draw a beak.
- Optional: Want to give your bird even more personality? Add feathers, pipe cleaners, pom-poms, or any other decorations you like.
Step 4: Making More Birds!
Once you've finished decorating your first bird, repeat steps 1-3 to make as many birds as you want. You can even create different types of birds with different colors, shapes, and decorations.
Tips and Ideas
- For younger kids, you can help them with the cutting and folding. Older kids can be more independent and creative with their decorations.
- You can use different sizes of paper plates to make different sizes of birds.
- Get creative with your decorations! Try using different materials, colors, and patterns. You can even add glitter or sequins to make your birds sparkle.
- Turn your birds into a mobile by attaching them to strings and hanging them from the ceiling or a tree branch.
- Use your birds to decorate your home, classroom, or party. They're great decorations for a spring or summer theme.
